FILEHUB ANALYST GUIDES

How do I compare sales by region?

Start with a transaction-level sales export containing invoice date, customer, sales amount and region. If region is absent, join it through a verified customer or territory mapping. Then group revenue by the reporting period and region.

1. Clean your region field

Standardize names like “West”, “Western” and “Region W” only after confirming they refer to the same area. Assign each customer or outlet using the correct reporting period.

2. Add sales with SUMIFS

If sales amounts are in E:E, regions are in C:C and your summary region is in H2, enter =SUMIFS($E:$E,$C:$C,H2). Copy the formula down for each region.

3. Count unique customers separately

Do not use COUNTIF on invoice lines as a unique store count. Count distinct customer IDs within each region, not raw sales rows.

4. Compare value and distribution

A region with high sales may still reach fewer customers. Look at both revenue and unique buying accounts, and check whether returns and credits are included.

5. Use FileHub Analyst

Upload the export, select Region as the group and Sales as the value. FileHub produces grouped revenue and an Excel report while flagging missing region assignments.

Frequently asked questions

Should sales returns be included?

That depends on whether you report gross sales or net sales. Keep a consistent definition across regions.

What if a customer sells in more than one region?

Use the transaction’s region where available, or a verified assignment rule valid for the reporting date.

Prefer to do this without building the formulas?

Upload your Excel file to FileHub Analyst, select the columns and get a report. If your data needs mapping first, you can review matches before exporting.
