FILEHUB ANALYST GUIDES
How do I calculate sales versus target?
Sales achievement is actual sales divided by target, usually shown as a percentage. A 500,000 target with 425,000 actual sales gives 85% attainment. The challenge is making sure the sales and target use the same region, rep, period and measurement basis.
1. Agree on the reporting level
A target can be monthly by rep, weekly by store, or annual by brand. Do not join a single monthly target onto 2,000 invoice lines and sum it 2,000 times.
2. Create one row per target group
Put a unique key like Region + Month in your target table. Ensure targets are not duplicated before looking them up.
3. Calculate achievement
If actual is in B2 and target in C2, use =IFERROR(B2/C2,"") and format the result as a percentage. The variance formula is =B2-C2.
4. Investigate gaps
A poor result might reflect missing customer mappings, credits, shifted billing dates or an incorrectly allocated target. Keep that separate from real performance.
5. Run the numbers
FileHub Analyst lets you select Actual and Target columns and specify whether the target is per row or one consistent value per reporting group. Conflicting target values are withheld for review.
Frequently asked questions
What is a good achievement rate?
It depends on your business and budget; 100% means actual equals target.
Why is my target overstated?
A common cause is repeating a monthly or regional target on every sales transaction before summing.
Prefer to do this without building the formulas?
Upload your Excel file to FileHub Analyst, select the columns and get a report. If your data needs mapping first, you can review matches before exporting.
